When running an older piece of software or game, transparency in Windows
7 will be disabled for compatibility reasons. Normally after the
program is closed, transparency will enable again and your windows will
be pretty again. Sometimes however, Windows will not restart Aero, the
service that handles transparency. To fix this Windows 7 has an built-in debugging utility that can fix the lost transparency.
To re-enable transparency, press the "Windows Logo Key". Now type "aero" (without quotes) in Search box and select "Find and fix problems with transparency and other visual effects". Now just click "Next" in the dialogue box and let the utility do the magic. Finally click "Close The Troubleshooter" to close the troubleshooter or "Explore Additional Problems" for more advanced options.
Note:
If it doesn't work you can try force enable "aero" with command prompt. To do this press the "Windows Logo Key", and type "cmd.exe" (without quotes) in the Search box. Now right click "cmd.exe" and select "Run as administrator" (Requires password if logged in from standard or limited user account ). Then type net stop uxsms, in the command prompt window and wait for the service to stop, then type net start uxsms. Now your windows should look normal again with transparency. This fix should also work under Windows Vista.
